Artist Rebecca Saylor Sack was an associate professor and director of fine arts at the University of the Arts until 2024. In correspondence with RQ, she told us that she learned of the closure in The Philadelphia Inquirer: “I thought it was a joke … the closure and appalling swiftness of it was deeply shocking.” She’ll miss her students. “Teaching is reciprocal—you are constantly learning and actively expanding your experience. Ideas and discoveries made in the studio find their way into the classroom, and your students’ insights can impact the way you think about your own work.” She added, “I will miss seeing my students’ work evolve and witnessing them emerge as confident makers. There is true joy in this process.” //
